IDEA 2021: A Global Dance Experience in Amman, Jordan

IDEA – International Dance Encounter Amman, is not just another dance festival. It is a bi-annual, multi-disciplinary celebration of dance that takes place in the vibrant city of Amman, Jordan. Since its inception, IDEA has established itself as a pioneering platform for innovation, experimentation, and the continuous development of dance culture in Jordan and beyond.

A Look Back: IDEA 2019

The first edition of IDEA in 2019 made a powerful impact by presenting nine cutting-edge dance performances, featuring 46 artists from 18 different countries. This event marked the beginning of an exciting journey, setting the stage for future collaborations and artistic explorations.

IDEA 2021: Expanding Horizons

For its second edition in 2021, IDEA is raising the bar even higher. This year, the festival will unfold across multiple locations throughout Amman, offering an immersive experience that transcends traditional boundaries. The festival will feature 18 dynamic events, showcasing the work of over 35 artists from more than 10 different countries.

IDEA 2021 is more than just live performances; it is a holistic artistic experience. The festival includes artistic residencies, gallery installations, pop-up exhibitions, workshops, master classes, and a dance symposium. A special highlight of this year’s festival is the screening of some of the best dance films from around the world, presented on outdoor projectors and available online.

IDEA is committed to nurturing the next generation of artists. Beyond the festival itself, IDEA serves as an educational platform, dedicated to building connections between artists and innovators in Jordan and globally. Through year-round learning programs, direct mentorship, and personalized guidance, IDEA works closely with artists, makers, and performers to develop new and original productions.

Each year, IDEA commissions or co-commissions established dance creators, performers, and collaborators to produce a full-length dance production for the international stage. This initiative fosters a creative environment where dancers, choreographers, musicians, and designers can collaborate, pushing the boundaries of artistic expression and creating unique, challenging, and diverse works.
