Hiwar

Hiwar (Oman project with Zahed Sultan)

Bridging the gap between traditional music and modern forms, Zahed Sultan’s Hiwar Oman project is an exploration of pearl-diving music from the Gulf, created during a residency in Muscat in 2017.

For this performance in Muscat, Zahed invited a team of international creatives to join him in developing the special edition of ‘Hiwar’ in congruence with local Omani dancers, a choir, a strings section, and a folk band. The 40-person, 75-minute feature performance used technology, sound, movement, and light, to present a dynamic story about Oman’s importance as a gateway to and from the Arabian Gulf, the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean.

Abdul hadi AbuNahleh ( Studio 8) ‘s role in the project, is the choreographer who helps to realize the vision of Zahed and conceives, creates, and directs dance and movement with 8 b-boys from Oman.

Here is a short film of ‘Hiwar’ Directed by Zahed Sultan
