Space Harmony

“Space Harmony” is an innovative project that reimagines the relationship between dance and spatial design, challenging traditional notions of exhibiting dance-related material objects like backdrops and costumes in museums and galleries. This project explores the possibility of capturing and displaying the trace of the performer and the movement itself. “Space Harmony” merges installation art with live performance, bringing together two spatial partners: the motion of the installation and the actions of the dancers. The installation doesn’t just serve as a backdrop; it becomes an active participant, dancing alongside the performers.

Overview

“Space Harmony” is both an installation and a live performance, set in a gallery space. The project blurs the lines between art forms, where the installation is not merely a static element but a dynamic entity that moves in response to bodily actions. The dancers, integrated into the sculptural concept, become the ‘dance partners’ of the installation, creating a dialogue between human movement and spatial design. The performance and the installation are equally important, independent yet mutually responsive elements of a cohesive whole.

Inspired by the desire to break free from conventional displays of dance material objects, “Space Harmony” delves into the interaction between movement and space. It questions how the essence of a dance can be preserved and exhibited in a gallery setting, beyond traditional performances. The project draws on the idea that the installation itself can dance, becoming a partner to the performers and creating a space where art and movement coexist in harmony.

Themes

– Dance and Space: The exploration of how movement and spatial design can interact and influence each other.
– Integration of Art Forms: The fusion of installation art and live dance performance, creating a new form of artistic expression.
– Interactive Engagement: The installation’s role as an active participant, inviting audience interaction and curiosity.
– Reimagining Exhibition: Challenging traditional displays of dance-related objects and exploring new ways to exhibit the trace of movement.

Artistic Approach

In “Space Harmony,” the installation and the dancers are treated as equal partners. The installation moves in response to the dancers’ actions, creating a dynamic interplay between the organic and the structural. This approach ensures that the installation is not just a part of the stage design but an active participant in the performance. The live performance is set in Darat al Funun, a cultural center in the heart of Amman, Jordan, surrounded by a garden and the ruins of a Byzantine church, adding a historical and cultural layer to the experience.

“Space Harmony” is a groundbreaking project that redefines the relationship between dance and spatial design. By integrating installation art and live performance, it offers a fresh perspective on how dance can be exhibited and experienced in a gallery setting. The project invites the audience to engage with the installation as a living, moving entity, blurring the lines between performer and sculpture, and creating a space where art and dance exist in perfect harmony.
